CHARACTER
» Name: Cristina Yang
» Fandom: Grey's Anatomy
» Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cristina_Yang
» Canon Point: End of Season 3 - Meredith and Cristina have gone on Cristina's Honeymoon together.
» Gender: Female
» Age: 28
» Orientation: Straight. While some might argue that there could possibly be something between Cristina and Meredith, that’s nothing more than a best friend thing. She’s very straight and all her romantic interests have been with men, her most notable being Preston Burke with whom she was engaged to be married to.

» Personality: Cristina Yang is a hardcore, bad ass surgeon, she knows this and so do those who know her. Incredibly focused and driven, she is also logical, strong-willed and often cold. Her overly direct manner, often seen as abrupt and surly, has alienated many of her co-workers, friends and significant others over the years. Her competitive nature often pits her against her fellow interns and she is honestly not above stealing or hijacking patients if it means she gets a chance to do a surgery.

To really get to know Cristina, one needs to really dig into her past to find out what drives and motivates her. At the age of nine, Cristina witnessed her father's death. She describes watching him bleed out, and despite trying to stop the bleeding herself, she was powerless to do anything about it. This loss was so extensive that it drove her to become a surgeon so she'd never have to experience that feeling of powerless again. It also in a way made it extremely hard for her to bond with others because once again she never wanted to go through that.

It's an understatement to say that Cristina doesn't make friends well. Her terse manner just seems to alienates everyone. She takes sarcasm to whole new levels and her competitive streak makes it impossible for her to play nice with others. Her bedside manner is AWOL as she's unable to relate to patients and their families on an emotional level, she relies on her logic to relay simple facts when dealing with them. She is incapable of allowing herself to empathize and lands in hot water time and again because of it, but seemingly refuses to change her way.

Cristina's first real relationship is with Meredith Grey. The two met on their first day of their internship and they hit it off when Meredith notes to Cristina that there are only six women out of twenty in the program. Cristina replies back with disappointment, "Yeah. I hear one of them's a model. Seriously, that's gonna help with the respect thing?" Despite that the two had a falling out because she felt that Meredith was being given surgeries because of Derek’s favoritism (Meredith and Derek had slept together) and her famous mother, Dr. Ellis Grey. She gets over that though when she realizes that Meredith is in fact a good doctor, apologizes and the two start down the road to a deep intense friendship.

It's a big step for Cristina to let someone into her life like she has with Meredith. The two seem to understand each other like no one else ever will. Cristina understands that Meredith's career is important to her, because her own is the most important thing in her life. They provide an odd sort of therapy for each other, they never baby each other and Cristina often mocks Meredith's problems, but it works for them. Cristina seems to need it and she even appreciates Meredith's own brand of sarcasm. They often have conversations with each other that overlap and are actually two complete different conversations, but once again it works for them. They acknowledge each others faults, pick at them even, but in the end they are always the other's “person”. Their friendship was forever sealed when Cristina decided to terminate an unwanted pregnancy and listed Meredith as her emergency contact at the doctor's office. Ever since, Cristina has referred to Meredith as her "person".

While she's never been as close with fellow residents George, Alex and Izzie as Meredith is, she still considers them friends and has over time warmed up to them in a way that only Cristina can - constant picking on, mocking of and being there for them when they really need it. With George she calls him Bambi because she sees him as naive and overly optomistic, but she has a bond with him, knowing how he feels when his dad dies. She enjoys picking on him though, and in a way it's her way of showing she 'cares'. With Alex, she thinks he's an ass - and that's saying something coming from someone like Cristina. But she knows he's a good guy, but well he's Alex. They seem to get each other's snarky side and with her that's good. She first thought that Izzie was nothing more than a model doctor and didn't even really have much respect for her at first because of that. But, over time she's grown to care for Izzie in her own way, even laying on the floor or the bathroom with her after Denny died. Once again the death of a loved one seemed to draw Cristina closer to someone. Even though Izzie's upbeat ways get on her nerves, she does know that Izzie is a good doctor and that has helped raise Cristina's view on her. She doesn't really have a personal relationship with Derek, Meredith's on and off again thing, but if nothing else she respects him for his skills as a doctor. She's not above calling him out when he hurts Meredith, but in the end, she does respect him.

Cristina values logic and rational thinking, but she’s gone through several situations that had a deep profound emotional impact on her. She’s been in a relationship with Preston Burke - an attending surgeon, who has helped her learn to express her feelings, even though Cristina fought the idea of emotional intimacy. He was there for her after she after she collapsed while in surgery with him from an ectopic pregnancy. Despite the fact that the two had broken up before that, he was the only person she allowed to comfort her when she couldn’t stop crying from her grief - even though she had planned on having an abortion. This situation helped Cristina be able to open up more when it came to expressing her feelings.

After Burke was shot in the arm and required surgery, Cristina had a panic attack and fled. It’s one of the few times where she completely lost control of her feelings and unable to remain calm. She has a need to be in control of her feelings, to keep things rational, but Burke’s being shot showed her just how much she really loved him. In effect this just went to show that despite how hard she tried, Cristina wasn’t the robot people initially thought she was but actually has a very human side to her - one that she doesn’t care to show, but it’s still there. Her "person" flat-lining after almost drowning during a ferry crisis was another defining moment for Cristina. Being a person who is unable to emotionally deal with the loss of a loved one, this forced her to confront those feelings and made her realize that she was willing to ensure that everything was done to save a patient - in this case Meredith.

Despite Cristina learning to be less robotic and more human, she’s still incredibly sarcastic, blunt and speaks her mind. She has no problem what so ever letting others know what she truly thinks of them and their actions and she is rarely ever apologetic about this. A lot of people think she’s brash and abrasive, and for the most part she is, but the things she says are normally harsh truth that she thinks others are too afraid to say.

As stated before, Cristina has a hard time getting along with others. One of those others would be her mother. While she obviously loves her mother and knows she’s a caring and kind person, Cristina also finds her annoying and has a hard time dealing with her. Not much is said about her relationship with her stepfather, but because of him she was raised Jewish. She’s non practicing though even if she has at times referred to herself as Jewish. Despite that, she believes only in science and facts and has stated over and over that she is an atheist.

Cristina finally opened up enough to Burke that he proposed to her. It took her a while to accept - mainly because she was really unsure about the whole marriage thing, not thinking that she needed a ceremony to prove she loved someone. But she decided that she loved him enough that she could get past what she thought and give Burke what he needed. It wasn’t an easy choice for her because in the end it meant that not only did she have to deal with her overbearing mother, but his as well - who in her opinion took overbearing to a whole new level.

Burke ended up leaving Cristina at the alter, and though it took until she was back at their apartment to break down, break down she did. It wasn’t until then when she was trying to rip her dress and choker off that she realized just how much him leaving her broke her heart. Everything he’d asked of her, she attempted. Giving up her apartment, attempting to be more open and less robotic with her feelings. She’d done everything she was suppose to do to keep everyone (Burke, her mother and his mother) happy and then he was gone and she couldn’t fix it. She’s hurt, though not quite at that angry stage though. That’s been put off to be dealt with, well never in her opinion, while she takes her ‘person’ with her on her not!honeymoon to lay out in the sun and drink a lot of tequila.

» "amatomnes" [The feed starts and there’s Cristina Yang sitting on the floor with an open bottle of Tequila sitting in front of her. She looks between the bottle and the screen of her device.] I’ve been looking over the entries on this and have come to a conclusion.

Bitches. Seriously. Oh my collar’s too tight. Oh Atia, she’s sooooo mean.

Seriously?

So here’s my advice, my honest-to-God in your face advice.

Life is full of shit. And since it seems that most of you are young, you've got your whole life ahead of you, which really just means you're looking forward to a crap load of shit. So suck it up, drink a bunch of Tequila and get back to me once you've, oh I don't know, drowned, or got ditched on your wedding day. Got it? Great.

» "amatomneslogs" Third-Person Prose Entry: Cristina groaned, her eyes squinting in the harsh morning sunlight as she debated whether or not she wanted to crawl out of bed. It was a nice bed, obviously not her bed, but it was still nice. With silky sheets and... Crap. She suddenly pushed herself up, groaning again as her body protested her movements. And it wasn't the 'Oh-god-I-drank-Tequila-last-night' kind of protest but rather the 'I'm-a-whore-and-went-at-it-like-a-rabid-monkey-in-heat' kind of ache.

Crap. Snippets of the night before flickered through her thoughts and for a moment she was seriously considering pulling the covers over herself and just, well she didn't know. Sleep until Meredith found her. And maybe her mystery fellow whore would show up and show her some more of that thing her body was screaming he'd done to her. Maybe he could just help her forget for a while, forget and just enjoy good dirty sex. That actually sounded like a good idea.

She slowly rolled out of bed, her feet landing on the cold marble floor. Still squinting, her gaze looked around the room. Since when did the resort have themed rooms? Seriously? OK, she'd have to rethink repeating the night before with mystery whore. How had she managed to find someone who had a Greek themed room in Hawaii? Tequila. That was probably it.

"Hello guy-I-had-sex-with? Where the hell are you?"

Great. First Burke, and no she'd even been left by her fellow whore. She looked around again, this time finding the neatly folded pile of clothes at the foot of the bed. Oh, yeah. She'd picked a total winner. Themed room, freaky folding of the clothes. Next she'd probably find out he pranced around with pointy ears at those geek conventions.

Stumbling to the foot of the bed, she rifled the clothes. Panties? Check. Bra? Check. Jeans and t-shirt? Yep, good. Weird phone thing? Not hers. Mystery whore's. Whatever. She sighed, reached up and rubbed the back of her neck and almost immediately her eyes widened as her fingers brushed against what felt like three different chains.

"What the-?"

She immediately tugged at them, trying to pull them off and cursed quite loudly when the only thing it did was to cause said chains to dig into her neck. "Seriously?!" She was not above stealing Meredith's phrase there, it worked. "Mystery whore! You officially suck."
